Girls being upset over being seen in bra/panties but not bikinis is not a double standard.

If she’s in a bikini, it’s what she consciously chose to wear and be seen in, in a public space, and like any outfit she was prepared to be seen in it by other people.

If you’ve caught a girl in her underwear, however, you’re probably trespassing in her bedroom, bathroom, or other personal space, where she should be in privacy, and she has every right to be upset if that privacy is violated.

It’s not about what she’s wearing or what it is covering, but rather her privacy and consent to be seen in the first place. Please respect that.

The flip-side of this for me was “why is it okay to wear a bikini but if I walk around my own house in a more-covering bra it’s like EWW GROSS WHAT ARE YOU DOING THE WINDOWS ARE OPEN”

I don’t know if you know this, tumblr user koolkidseatgreens, but Ke$ha is a certified genius. She has an IQ over 140 and an SAT score of 1500. When she was younger she would go to the library and do research for fun. Ke$ha is a both feminist and an advocate for equal marriage/rights for people of any sexuality, being a queer woman herself.

Ke$ha is a smart, professional woman, and just because she sings songs about wanting to let loose and have fun every once in a while doesn’t make her a piece of shit.

Ke$ha’s songs are meant to point out the sexism in our media. She treats men the same way many men in the music industry treat women, and she is hated on for it. Relentlessly. She sings on multiple occasions about taking charge in a sexual relationship, of how she only uses men for their body parts. She sexualizes men to make them uncomfortable. She sexualizes men for a reaction, so that people can both see why women are so uncomfortable with their sexualization and also to point out the inequality between the sexes both in the media and in the world at large.

She is judged so harshly for singing about things that make many men famous.

If you listen to Ke$ha’s deconstructed album you will see that she actually has some talent, which may be hard to hear because she does in fact use a fair amount of autotune. This is because of her genre and because of the kind of music she chooses to create as an artist. Ke$ha may not write her songs, but this doesn’t meant she isn’t a good artist or a good person. This doesn’t mean she deserves your harsh words. Some singers are good at writing, but that’s hardly a requirement. Last time I checked whether or not you can sing has nothing to do with whether or not you’re a poet.

You should not be calling anyone a piece of shit, my friend, especially someone you’ve never sat down and had a conversation (or even taken the time to wonder about her feelings!), but if anyone deserves that kind of language it’s not Ke$ha.

You may think that by shaming women for expressing their sexuality and having fun every once in a while, that you are somehow abolishing sexism. That in weeding out the less ‘deserving’ women you are gaining our sex more respect. This is not the case, and the fact that you and many others feel such a strong need to shame this woman who has done nothing wrong, especially not to you, shows that we still have a very far away to go.

Just kidding, guys. These birds are just trolling the hell out of ants. I really, really wanted to show you this clip of a Galapagos finch or something harassing the shit out of formica ants and then being all “Yes, yes, bathe me in your fury! Your chemical defenses are now my own! Mwahahahaha!”, but the closest thing I could find is this video of David Attenborough pissing off some wood ants. It was basically like that, only instead of an Englishman with a stick, it was a bird stomping around with its wings spread just being an absolute asshole about everything.

This behavior is actually called anting, and there are two types of anting that birds can engage in. One is just anting, where birds will rub ants all over themselves to get that precious, precious formic acid all up in their feathers. They’ll also do it with mothballs, cigarette butts, and certain sorts of beetles and millipedes. The other one is passive anting, where a particularly lazy bird will find an anthill and just flop down on it with all their feathers spread and puffed and annoy the ants until they hop to and try to make them leave, at which point the bird rubs its wings together and goes “Yeeeeeess.”

They do this to get rid of external parasites, because external parasites are annoying. Ant-eating birds who do this are getting a two-for deal out of it, because they get the ants to empty their acid sacs in a beneficial location (the bird’s feathers) and then get to eat them without having to deal with the acid in their crops, so it’s basically like if your bug-spray or deoderant came in a bacon bottle.

Formica ants get the brunt of this, because they’re super-common and quite frequently spray the acid instead of trying to inject it, so the bird can get itself doused and then preen it into its feathers. Considering the spraying of acid is like the ant way of saying “Oh my god go away you dickhead I hate you we all hate you why are you still here jesus christ what is wrong with you,” we can be reasonably sure that they’re not super-thrilled by this bird behavior. Since the birds keep doing it, we can be reasonably sure that they don’t care about the ants’ feelings.

If your mom was an asshole too, all parental holidays can become I Survived My Childhood Awareness Day where you buy yourself a nice dinner, get self-indulgent with the internal monologue with loads of compliments about the fact that you are incredibly badass for just coming out of that meat grinder with your heart intact. For added happiness, find some friends with similar issues and make a party of it. The strongest families are glued together from shards picked up off the floor, I sincerely believe that.

Yes! It isn’t that Brienne is objectively ugly - take away broken noses and knocked out teeth, and the main ‘ugly’ quality is her lack of delicacy - it is that she is subjectively ugly in Westeros. It is like on the show when Cersei is being forced to marry Renly and Tywin describes her as the most beautiful woman in Westeros. It isn’t because of what she actually looks like, it is because she is is the Queen. And not in the ‘flattery to power’ way, but because that is how that society sees her. You could have a beautiful queen or an ugly queen, but you are unlikely to just have a ‘she is pretty enough’ Queen. It is a society of superlatives and hierarchy, not aesthetics. Brienne isn’t beautiful - in part - because her family isn’t powerful enough to SAY she is beautiful.

This is so true— it’s funny coming off of GRRM’s over-the-top description about hair of silver or spun gold, or garments with such-and-such color, and then seeing the real-life version in the TV show, with duller colors and ordinary people with blond hair. I think there’s a certain amount of bardic exaggeration in the narration that has to be taken into account.
